Council and Department of Disabilities Launch Playgrounds for All Website

September 22, 2025

The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council (Council) and Maryland Department of Disabilities (MDOD) are excited to launch our Playgrounds for All website. This new website promotes playgrounds where people with and without disabilities can play together. It builds on the Framework and Toolkit for Inclusive Playgrounds that the Council and MDOD released in 2023.

The Playgrounds for All website highlights the benefits of play spaces that are welcoming and inclusive for everyone. It offers a toolkit for communities to develop their own play spaces. It also includes a map of public playgrounds across the state with accessible and inclusive features.

“PlaygroundsForAllMD.org is an exciting step toward making Maryland a leader in inclusive recreation,” said Rachel London, Executive Director of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council. “Whether you’re looking for an inclusive playground nearby or want to help your community build one, this site makes it easier for all Maryland families to find and create spaces where every child can play, learn, and feel welcome. We’re proud to partner with MDOD to support communities in building a more inclusive Maryland, one playground at a time.”

Many playgrounds in Maryland meet the basic accessibility requirements set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). However, they often lack the features needed for full inclusivity. As a result, people with disabilities cannot fully participate on many playgrounds. The Playgrounds for All website aims to change that by promoting truly inclusive playgrounds where all Marylanders can learn, play, and have fun together.

“Every child in Maryland deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and developmental benefits of play,” said Governor Wes Moore. “The launch of the Playgrounds for All website isa testament to our commitment to creating a more equitable and accessible Maryland for all. I commend the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and the Department of Disabilities for their vital partnership in creating this invaluable resource for our communities.”

“We are pleased to make this resource available to local neighborhoods and communities, cities and counties, and private and faith-based organizations,” said Carol A. Beatty, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Disabilities. “We want to be a partner in creating spaces where everyone can come together and have fun.”

The website is publicly available at playgroundsforallmd.org. For more information, please contact Chris Rogers (crogers@md-council.org) or Kimberly McKay (kimberly.mckay1@maryland.gov).
